SUMMARY

The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of all health and safety functions within the plant. This position is expected to promote a healthy and safe workplace through coaching, team building, open communications, and active involvement in the workplace. They are also responsible for ensuring health and safety programs and hazard identification and control and complying with company, plant and federal regulations. Collects and reports on plant safety programs and results.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a safe and encouraging work environment.
  • Research, develop, implement, maintain and monitor, plant health and safety training programs to ensure legislated compliance requirements are met, improve safety awareness, and ensure competency is achieved in health and safety work practices.
  • Conduct new employee/contractor safety orientation.
  • Coach and direct employees in daily operations of health and safety, and policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Plant Manager concerning policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead hazard analysis activities to ensure safe work processes and practices are identified and implemented.
  • Investigate and report on all accidents/incidents, ensuring root causes are identified and recommendations are appropriate.
  • Analyze accident/incident trends and develop/implement recommendations to improve safety behaviors and plant safety record.
  • Coordinate and report on internal/external health and safety/loss control audits.
  • Assume active role in health and safety programs and committees to create a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Oversee, complete and submit Federal and State accident/injury reports and act as liaison between medical provider, employee and plant.
  • Develop and monitor, employee early return to work/restricted work plans as necessary.
  • Prepare, maintain, monitor, and report on all plant health and safety issues.
  • Benchmark health and safety programs against industry leaders.
  • Stay abreast of pertinent legislation and/or regulations that affect the workplace.
  • Maintain current certifications for mandated health and safety programs.
  • Facilitate government agency personnel site visits.
  • Maintain required record keeping.
  • Seek out and resolve plant issues.
  • Facilitate open and honest communication.
  • Encourage fair, consistent and participatory management.
  • Encourage decision making by and/or input from team members.
  • Motivate employees to meet or exceed organizational expectations.
  • Explore and implement ways to recognize and encourage employee performance and document plant and individual safety performance achievements.
  • Promote and facilitate CIMSS efforts.
  • Initiate regular meetings with the Plant Manager to set personal goals and measure performance.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and government regulations.
  • Actively participate, support, and implement Company policies, systems, best practices, and initiatives.  

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety preferred.
  • 4+ years’ experience working in safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, detail oriented and strong follow up skills.
  • Computer and software skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Some technical knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical methods and procedures.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess good team and conflict resolution skills.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and set priorities accordingly.
  • Knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance. 
  • Experience with ISO Standards a plus.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Experience with environmental regulations is a plus.
  • Experience w/ CAD is a plus (reviewing design documents for safety concerns).
