PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • To safely provide world class Reliability Technical service to Operations and insure that all equipment is available when needed to produce products for our customers. To take the lead in converting the mill from a reactive parts changer/ fixer mode to a proactive mode where we anticipate problems and improve the reliability of the plant.
  • Provides technical resource in areas of vibration analysis, machine balancing, shaft alignment, Non-destructive testing / inspection, hydraulic troubleshooting, thermography, and installation of plant equipment.

 

description of Essential duties:

  • Be the PdM specialist for the Mill
  • Be site specialist for PdM technologies including vibration, oil analysis, ultrasonic, lubrication, etc
  • Reduce maintenance costs by identifying potential failures before they become catastrophic failures using PdM skills
  • Directly involved in completing field work such as thermography, non-destructive testing / inspection, machine balancing, vibration rounds, vibration follow up, equipment troubleshooting and installation, machine alignments and adjustments.
  • Works to advance the use of core Best Maintenance Practices within the overall maintenance program, champions best practices and investigates new practices such as ultra-sonics.
  • Supports the Shift and Area Mechanical Technicians with risk management and reliability improvements issues and projects.
  • Area Management will become a key component of how we do business as a Maintenance department. You are expected to support this implementation and be a resource for reliability issues for all Areas. Become a leader in getting the Mill to world class.
  •  interact with the Lube Technician to assess lube issues, oil sampling, lube routes etc to increase reliability        
  • Know the top Downtime issues and work to resolve them (top 5)
  • Interface with Area Operators to know and address their issues. Read the logbook.
  • Interface with Area Planner to get the right down day & Daily work scheduled
  • Work with other crafts & operators to increase uptime reliability
  • Check the ‘Malvern Action Log’ and ‘Maintenance Action Log’ daily to identify high priority issues and get them resolved
  • Investigate the root cause of equipment failure and make recommendations for long term fix.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining resources (prints, manuals, job plans, tools, spare parts, etc.).
  • Complete assigned work orders or other PM/PdM activities based on established priority and return completed paperwork.

 

Key expectations supporting organizational structure:

  • Follow all company policies regarding absenteeism, tardiness, and breaks.
  • Attend/Participate in Maintenance crew meetings and other group functional meetings/training.
  • Daily interaction with Area Operators and Supervisors. Know their issues and follow-up.
  • Support the Asset Reliability Process (ARP) as it is rolled out. This includes Area Management, Planning & Scheduling, Daily Schedules, etc.
  • Support the Maintenance Team to resolve process related issues and during process upset conditions.
  • Support the Maintenance Team to maintain activities for meeting & training coverage.
  • Be a member of the Maintenance Management Team On-Call rotation. Expectation is to be on-site within one hour of call-in.
  • Communication is a key to our success. Check email daily. When issued a radio, you are expected to wear it. Let Operations and peers know about changes and information that might affect them.

 

key safety/housekeeping reponsibilities:

  • Safety: This is #1 at Arauco. You will follow the Arauco Safety Philosophy and participate in the LAZER process. Your input to continually improve the safety at the Mill is encouraged and required. Always look out for yourself and the other guy.
  • Housekeeping is everyone’s responsibility. You are expected to complete your assigned housekeeping tasks and initial the worksheet when completed. Techs will clean up their work area when the job is completed.
  • Lead for “Job Specific Contact” for contractors (as required).
  • Participate in all mill safety programs (Laser, confined space, Hot works, etc.) identified to maintain a high level of safety awareness in the mill.

  • Continually seek to reduce costs by looking for ways to save money. (do work in-house, check for better pricing on items, etc)
  • Add value to the business every day

 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Strong mechanical skills and analytical skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Seek to continually improve skill-set (with vendor training, web-based training, seminars, magazines, etc)
  • Familiarity of the basic functions of our SAP system
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Self motivated and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to look for improvement opportunities to increase efficiencies and overall equipment uptime.
  • Vibration analysis work experience is considered an asset but is not a requirement.  This position does require the individual to become a member of the Vibration Institute, or equivalent, as agreed by employer.  It is also expected that the individual will participate in training and obtain Categories I and II Vibration Analyst Classifications.
  • Field balancing experience and machine alignment specialist would be considered an asset, but not required.  These tasks are integral to this role and it will be expected that the individual will become proficient at these tasks with appropriate training.
  • Hydraulic troubleshooting experience and ability to interpret hydraulic schematics
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing / inspection procedures would be considered an asset but not required
