Are you a dedicated safety professional looking for a rewarding career in a dynamic 24/7 manufacturing environment? Arauco is seeking a passionate and experienced Safety Leader to champion the administration of all health and safety functions within our plant. This role reports directly to the Plant Manager and is based at our site in Moncure, NC.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Sciences (preferred)
  • 4+ years’ experience working in safety in a manufacturing environment.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an automated manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and effectively works with various computer programs
  • Some technical knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical methods and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, detail oriented and strong follow up skills.
  • Knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance. 
  • Experience with ISO Standards, environmental regulations, SAP, and CAD is a plus.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move freely throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and ladders, and navigating around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch as necessary to inspect and maintain equipment
  • Capability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform physical tasks that involve lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects
  • Endurance to stand and walk for extended periods, often in environments with dust, chemicals, high noise levels, and varying temperatures

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and encouraging work environment and coach employees in daily operations of health and safety, and policies and procedures.
  • Research, develop, implement, maintain and monitor, plant health and safety training programs to ensure legislated compliance requirements are met, improve safety awareness, and ensure competency is achieved in health and safety work practices.
  • Actively champion the Safe Teams and LASER processes within the mill, holding discussions with crews and leadership regarding program stats, progress, and implementing programs to drive performance
  • Be visible and active on the mill floor
  • Actively participate in mill tasks that might not fall under your area of ownership – work side by side with employees in these situations driving discussions at the job site about following task specific safety policies, identifying and acting on safer ways to work, and identifying and mitigating risks
  • Conduct new employee/contractor safety orientation.
  • Work closely with Plant Manager concerning policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead hazard analysis activities to ensure safe work processes and practices are identified and implemented.
  • Investigate and report on all accidents/incidents, ensuring root causes are identified and recommendations are appropriate.
  • Analyze accident/incident trends and develop/implement recommendations to improve safety behaviors and plant safety record.
  • Coordinate and report on internal/external health and safety/loss control audits.
  • Assume active role in health and safety programs and committees to create a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Oversee, complete and submit Federal and State accident/injury reports and act as liaison between medical provider, employee and plant.
  • Develop and monitor, employee early return to work/restricted work plans as necessary.
  • Prepare, maintain, monitor, and report on all plant health and safety issues.
  • Benchmark health and safety programs against industry leaders.
  • Seek out and resolve plant issues.
  • Explore and implement ways to recognize and encourage employee performance and document plant and individual safety performance achievements.
  • Promote and facilitate CIMSS efforts.
  • Actively participate, support, and implement Company policies, systems, best practices, and initiatives.
