Job Summary:

The Production Technician plays a crucial role in our production process by operating machinery and equipment to manufacture particle board products. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and quality.

 

All new employees are required to:

  • Operate a forklift to handle bunks of particle board.
    • The bunks can measure 8 to 12 feet long and approximately 3 feet tall. 
    • Using the fork, you will be required to move up to 2 bunks at a time and to stack up to 7 bunks.
    • Operating a forklift may be as needed or for the full 12 hour shift.
  • Use a computer to monitor processes as well as communicate with teams through Microsoft applications.
  • Follow the rotating work schedule of 12 hour shifts.
    • Workdays vary each week, with a monthly schedule of 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off.
    • Rotate between working 7:00 am – 7:00 pm or 7:00 pm – 7:00 am every two weeks.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Machine Operation: Operate machinery involved in particle board production, including chippers, dryers, presses, and sanders, according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Quality Control: Monitor production processes to ensure particle board products meet quality standards, including size, thickness, density, and surface finish.
  • Material Handling: Assist with the handling and transportation of raw materials, such as wood chips and resins, to feed into production machinery.
  • Setup and Adjustment: Assist in the setup and adjustment of machinery and equipment for different production runs, ensuring proper settings and specifications are met.
  • Maintenance Support: Perform routine maintenance tasks on production equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts, to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or production issues, collaborating with maintenance teams to implement solutions and minimize downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Always adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in safety training programs.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate production records, including production logs, quality inspection reports, and equipment maintenance records.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the production team to coordinate workflow and ensure efficient production operations.

 

Safety Requirements:   

  • Must place safety as the priority demonstrating safe working behaviors and be a model for proper PPE use, including wearing a hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and other PPE as required.  
  • Demonstrates thorough use and participation in the understanding of all required safety policies and procedures.  
  • Works actively to maintain housekeeping responsibilities.  
  • Maintains lockout certifications as assigned.  
  • Actively participate and positively contribute to the safety program.  
  • Report all safety incidents (including near misses)  
  • Complete LASER for any upset condition or procedure.  
  • Ensure Arauco exercises responsible environmental stewardship in all areas of our business.  

 

Physical Requirements:           

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.  
  • Climbing and working at heights as needed including mobile ladders and aerial platforms.  
  • Bending, squatting, twisting as required.  
  • Ability to lift 50lbs as needed.  
  • Ability to work in both hot and cold weather environments as needed daily.  
  • Must be comfortable moving throughout large manufacturing environment with multiple buildings.  

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year Forklift experience is beneficial
  • Effectively communicate verbally and by e-mail
  • A high school diploma or GED is required 
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Post offer you must be able to pass a drug screen, background check and physical capability assessment.
