The Human Resources Manager provides strategic support in a single manufacturing site in addition to contributing to the broader HR team across multiple locations in North America. The HR Manager aligns mill objectives and corporate initiatives with employees and management, focusing on strong, solution-oriented leadership with multiple different levels. This role, as an HR professional, acts as an employee champion and change agent in ways that make us a better business.  The position supports the Grayling, MI mill and is an onsite position.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all Human Resource functions for the site.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, working to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manages the hourly work system (position level advancement structure, processes, and consistency).
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.
  • Partner with L&D Team to identify training needs and develop training plans and programs.
  • Evaluate and monitor the success of training programs, and follow-up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Conduct training as needed on various HR-related topics.
  • Maintain relationships in the local community and participate in community events.
  • Responsible for implementing corporate initiatives at the site level.

 

Requirements:

  • An associate or bachelors degree is preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of HR experience, 5 of which is in a leadership/manager role in a manufacturing environment.
  • SHRM/HRCI certification preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems impacting people, processes, and program issues, along with excellent communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Possess strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements and Michigan state-specific laws related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with legal counsel as needed/required.
  • Develops and analyzes trends and metrics to develop and/or update solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • MS Office applications.
