Job Summary                                                                                                                                             

The Quality Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that products and processes meet established quality standards and specifications. The primary purpose of this position is to test treated paper to ensure it meets established quality standards. Ensure operation teams produce a quality and consistent product that meets the expected targets with minimal waste and downgrade.  

 

Position Responsibilities                                                                                                                        

  • Conduct quality inspections and tests on treated paper products to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications
  • Perform visual inspections of treated paper for defects, including surface imperfections
  • Utilize testing equipment and instruments to measure and analyze properties
  • Record and document inspection results accurately, including any deviations from quality standards and specifications
  • Collaborate with production personnel to identify and address quality issues, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement
  • Assist in the investigation of customer complaints or quality-related incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions as necessary
  • Participate in internal audits and quality control activities to ensure adherence to quality management systems and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain calibration and maintenance records for testing equipment and ensure equipment is in proper working condition
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to facilitate quality-related activities and initiatives
  • All other duties assigned

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities                              

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Experience in manufacturing or production line operations, ideally in the wood products industry 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting skills 
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work 
  • Capability to follow instructions and work as part of a team 
  • Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing production demands 
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with colleagues and supervisors 
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights and weekends, as required 

 

   Safety Requirements                              

  • Demonstrate safe work practices and model proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, and safety shoes 
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work environment 
  • Maintain required certifications, including lockout/tagout 
  • Participate in safety programs and report safety incidents or near-misses 
  • Document and address upset conditions or procedures following established protocols 
  • Contribute to environmental stewardship in all work areas 

 

Physical Requirements                             

  • Ability to move freely throughout the facility, including climbing stairs and ladders 
  • Perform tasks involving bending, stooping, and crouching for equipment inspection and maintenance 
  • Lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds 
  • Conduct physical tasks requiring lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects 
  • Stand and walk for extended periods in environments with dust, chemicals, high noise levels, and varying temperatures 

 

Work Environment                     

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations 
  • Physical activity, including standing, climbing, and lifting, is required 
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory 
  • May include working irregular hours, such as nights, weekends, and holidays, and being on call for emergencies
